a pinch of salt an ever-evolving project by Tamara Pešić, dedicated to ceramics and food. from the objects, tools and vessels we use to prepare, arrange, preserve and enjoy food to rituals of sharing and togetherness. food touches on many aspects of our lives, not only by providing us with sustenance but also by reflecting our cultural and communal heritages, the relationships we form with our selves, our communities and our environment in a broader context. a pinch of salt is dedicated to the crafts revolving around food and how we bring it to our table.
Tamara designs and produces small batches of simple and functional ceramics, an evolving collection of subtle and playful iterations of everyday objects. Each piece is made with care, with natural materials that are made to last. She explores the qualities of clay by experimenting with different techniques, from wheel throwing to hand building and slip casting. Since all products are made by hand, irregularities may occur on the surface that can add their own character and beauty to each piece. The contrast between the textures of raw, unpolished and glossy, glazed surfaces is emphasized so that the inherent characteristics of the material can shine through.
In her practice as a designer Tamara is exploring the interactions of people, material and space. She is especially interested in our daily encounters with food. Her work ranges from designing objects we use for eating and drinking to creating edible food installations and eating experiences. She is currently based with her studio in Offenbach and Frankfurt in Germany.
The journey started back in 2017 in a small ceramic workshop in Fukuoka in Japan. During that time Tamara was visiting traditional pottery villages like Onta, Imari, Arita and Karatsu and was enthused by their subtle aesthetics.
